A New Beginning

Everybody needs a new beginning. The Bible says, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning. When Jonah failed and ran from the call of God, Jonah 3:1 says, “And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time….” God was giving Jonah a SECOND CHANCE! And God will do the same for each of us (And a third one, if needed.)

When David failed so badly, he discovered what Zechariah 13:1 says, “…There shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.” The GOOD NEWS is, it does not matter who we are or what we have done, we can START ALL OVER AGAIN!! We can close the door on last year with all its pains and failures. The only place all that stuff can live is in our memory. The only power it can have over us is the power we give it. Philippians 3:13 says, “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.” That verse is saying we can have a NEW BEGINNING!!

Today is the first day of the New Year. As we look over our shoulders at these past 12 months, I’m not sure how we would consider ourselves. Are we winners or losers? One thing certain is that we all made mistakes one time or two last year. So, it is wonderful to know that we can all have a time of NEW BEGINNINGS. Most people will be going back to work in a few days and the kids will soon be back in school.  What will happen as we move into this new year? Some might dread this new year while others may look forward to a new year and its promises. This year can be different, and it will be, if we come to realize that Jesus loves us, and that He that will never leave us. If you don’t know Jesus personally, simply ask Jesus to come into your life and He will. Jesus is standing at the door of your life asking to come in. Revelation 3:30

If you’re making resolutions start out small! Don’t set yourself up for failure by setting goals you know that you will never achieve. Most of the gyms in any town will be full during the first week of January, but by the middle of April they are almost empty. The ones who stay will make it through the rest of the year. Staying fit isn’t something you do short term, it’s a daily habit and a way of life—the same will be true for us spiritually.

The Bible says in Romans 10:17 faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God, the Bible. Make a commitment to take at least fifteen minutes every day the read the Word of God. Start in the New Testament and see your faith and personal relationship with God, Jesus and His Holy Spirit grow. That would be a great resolution for the new year. “May our Lord Jesus by His Spirit bring you and me to a high and closer personal walk with Him, and then let us continue in prayer in our daily walk, minute by minute from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.”  *May it be so! Amen! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
