Change the world one heart at a time, starting with our own.

Directions in life

Question #1 -“What exactly do we mean by eternal security’?”

The Bible teaches that our place in heaven is based not on our human performance but on what Jesus Christ did for us on the cross – – which doesn’t change no matter how we perform. John Chapter 5:24a  I tell you the truth, whoever hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has eternal life. Eternal life is something that every follower of Jesus Christ has – – in all its fullness – -right now here on earth. Heaven is merely a place where people who already have eternal life go – – when they leave this world. John 3:36 “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. John 6:47  I tell you the truth, the person who believes in Me has eternal life. When a person has embraced Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior God immediately grants that person salvation and eternal life and their salvation is “eternally secure”

Question #2 -“Can a person have eternal life and then lose it?”

John 5:24b ‘And that person will not be condemned but, rather, they have crossed over from death to eternal life ” To “cross over” = “change your place of residency; change your address; move” When we become a follower of Jesus Christ, God officially “moves our place of residency” from a place of eternal death to a place of eternal life.

The perfect tense in Greek is used to describe:

  • A completed action in the past
  • The results of which go on indefinitely and irreversibly into infinity

John 5:24a “The person who has believed in Jesus has eternal life and will never be condemned. ”

John 5:24b “But, rather, that person HAS crossed over, IS crossed over, AND ALWAYS WILL BE crossed over from death to eternal life.

John 5:24 declares to us, that when we embrace Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, God irreversibly transfers us from a state of eternal death to a state of eternal life – and there is no going back ever!

Irreversible, Legal Agreement

Hebrews 10:16          ‘And this is the covenant I will make with them (i.e., believers in Jesus): their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more. “

When a person believes in Jesus Christ, God enters into a “covenant” with that person — a legal agreement – – that John 5:24 declares to be irreversible.

Term #2 —Our names are inscribed in the Lamb’s Book of Life (Philippians 4:3, Revelation 21:27)

Term #3 —”There’s therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Jesus Christ” (Romans 8:1)
