If you feel overwhelmed, think of this. And I say, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest; Psalm 55:6 ESV https://bible.com/bible/59/psa.55.6.ESV Jesus felt this way when He was in The garden of Gethsemane. He even sweat blood because it’s glands burst. He knew that he would be dying on the cross and be separated temporarily from his father something that had never happened in all eternity. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 ESV https://bible.com/bible/59/mat.11.28-30.ESV Jesus promised to give us the rest. How do you get this rest? 1. Jesus frees us from the pressure to be perfect. God’s mercy has always been in existence even since the fall of Adam and Eve. God knew we would never be able to be perfect as He . When God through Moses gave us His laws, it was to show the people that they could not live up to being as perfect as God, so they had to seek the mercy of God. When Jesus came he told us the same thing. He taught that He was going die to take all the sins of the world on Himself, and that he would show Mercy to any that seeked Him. But the Pharisees in Jesus time did this, They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. Matthew 23:4 ESV https://bible.com/bible/59/mat.23.4.ESV But instead of trying to be perfect, Jesus just wants us to know that God loves us and will have mercy on anything as long as we seek Him and strive to grow to be as His Son Jesus. Sometimes we need just a time away from everything to be at rest with Jesus. He told us in Matthew 11:29. Take My yoke and learn of Me for I am gentle and lowly (Jesus is gentle with us and knows our weaknesses and still loves us) at heart and I will give great to your soul. Jesus is gentle towards us. He knows life in this world is hard at times. He lived here and He knows we live in a world that has fallen away from God. Therefore He is ready to have mercy on us. His desire is to give rest to our souls. 2. Jesus fills us with the power to be faithful. When we receive the forgiveness of Jesus the Lord and king of all, we have become men and women of God and he will never leave us nor forsake us. He knows that we will never be perfect as God but he also knows that He will allow us to grow to be as His Son Jesus was in this world. When we get to heaven we will be sons and daughters for eternity because God sees sacrificing Jesus that we have received. There is no sin in heaven because Jesus took all sin from those who receive him. When we walk into the heavenly Gates we will feel the love, joy, peace of our eternal Father. We will be totally transformed because of it. There will be no bad thoughts because there is nothing bad in the kingdom of God. There is no darkness whatsoever in God’s Kingdom in fact there will never be any more night. May the Lord help us to keep our eyes on that reality. This will aid us to become God’s sons and daughters here on Earth also. I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20 ESV https://bible.com/bible/59/gal.2.20.ESV When we take on the yoke of Jesus he walks beside us through the rest of our lives giving us His strength for all things. He gives us His joy and light that we shine in this world. It’s not our Joy. It’s Jesus for J, it’s others for O and in last placed you for Y. He gives us His light as we drink in His Word. His Word fills us with the light of God’s truth. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light. The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
