The crowd They saw Jesus as a means to an end. They wanted healing and food etc. To get what they wanted. Are our hearts seeking for the gifts or are we seeking to connect with the Giver? They came because they heard what Jesus was doing for others. The crowd only focus on what He can get from Him. The called They realized Who Jesus is and they want to be with Him and walk with Him. PS 27:4 desire to be with Jesus. God loved us so much He came to earth in the person of Jesus. James 1:12 Lord help us to LOVE God and seek to walk with Him during our daily lives. Matt. 7:22-23. Lord we want to know You better everyday. The called came to Jesus because they wanted to know Him. Jesus desires to walk with you and me. 2 Peter 3:9 Jesus wants all to come to repentance. The called ultimately realize they are representatives of Jesus. We are to share our love for Him. Share what He has done for us. That Jesus gave us a connection with our Father in Heaven.
Jesus gave us the second birth. There are two births, the free gift in our physical body and the free gift of our Spiritual body. John 3:1-8 So Matt. 28:18-20. Notes taken during David Platt’s sermon at McLean Bible Church 11/14/2021
Mark 3:7-19 Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and a great crowd followed, from Galilee and Judea and Jerusalem and Idumea and from beyond the Jordan and from around Tyre and Sidon. When the great crowd heard all that he was doing, they came to him. And he told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, lest they crush him, for he had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed around him to touch him. And whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.” And he strictly ordered them not to make him known. And he went up on the mountain and called to him those whom he desired, and they came to him. And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach and have authority to cast out demons. He appointed the twelve: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter); James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James (to whom he gave the name Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder); Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
