1. Jesus shows the rich young ruler that he does not know himself. Jesus reveals that he is comparing himself with others but not comparing himself with God. The ten commandments only reveal that we all fall short of God’s righteousness.
2. The young rich man did not understand who Jesus the Eternal King of Kings was, so he was not willing to sell all he had and followed Jesus.
No one has loved God with all your heart in this life. No one has ever loved their neighbors as themselves. These two sins multipled throughout a life would amount to many thousands sins. So no one can get into heaven without Jesus.
Mat. 6 lay not up treasures on earth but lay up treasures in heaven
Phil 3:7-21 “
Luke 18:18-34 NASB2020. A ruler questioned Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”” – “19 But Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone.” You know the commandments, ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not give false testimony, Honor your father and mother.’ ”” And he said, “All these things I have kept since my youth.”” Now when Jesus heard this, He said to him, “One thing you still lack; sell all that you possess and distribute the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”” But when he had heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely wealthy.” And Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!” For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God!”” Those who heard Him said, “And so who can be saved?”” But He said, “The things that are impossible with people are possible with God.” Peter said, “Behold, we have left our own homes and followed You.”” And He said to them, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house, or wife, or brothers, or parents, or children for the sake of the kingdom of God,” who will not receive many times as much at this time, and in the age to come, eternal life.”” Now He took the twelve aside and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all the things that have been written through the prophets about the Son of Man will be accomplished.” For He will be handed over to the Gentiles, and will be ridiculed, and abused, and spit upon,” and after they have flogged Him, they will kill Him; and on the third day He will rise.”” The disciples understood none of these things, and the meaning of this statement was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend the things that were said.” The disciples understood none of these things, and the meaning of this statement was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend the things that were said.”
Philippians 3:7-21. But whatever things were gain to me, these things I have counted as loss because of Christ.” – More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them mere rubbish, so that I may gain Christ,” More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them mere rubbish, so that I may gain Christ, and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; if somehow I may attain to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already grasped it all or have already become perfect, but I press on if I may also take hold of that for which I was even taken hold of by Christ Jesus. Brothers and sisters, I do not regard myself as having taken hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Therefore, all who are mature, let’s have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that to you as well; however, let’s keep living by that same standard to which we have attained. Brothers and sisters, join in following my example, and observe those who walk according to the pattern you have in us. For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even as I weep, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who have their minds on earthly things. For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our lowly condition into conformity with His glorious body, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.”

It brings such peace when we come to trust that God loves us as His children. This happens when we give our lives to Him through Jesus our Lord and King for eternity. Jesus tells the world that He is the way the truth and the life, no human comes to the Father except through Him. Jesus in the Gospel of John in Chapter 3: 1-8 tells us humans need to have too births not one. One birth of our physical body’s (Which we do nothing for, it is a gift) And another birth of the Spirit when we ask Jesus to take over our lives. This too is a free gift as Paul says in Eph 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith and it is not of yourself it is a gift of God not of works so no one can glorify themselves. This is my life verse. Titus 3:5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit. When we understand this, we see as parents in this world care for their children and wash them when they get dirty God too washes us when we get dirty. We are human, He is not. He is perfect, we are not. He knows this. Of course, we need to seek to please our Father in heaven all the time and keep growing in Him. God’s mercies are new every morning. Thank You Jesus.
