Now, whether we have ever stopped to think about it or not, God will hold us accountable for the way we live our lives. Yes, there will be a day of accounting! We will all be judged by the one who knows all the facts. It will be based on what we have done and what we have not done. We will not be judged on hearsay or what someone else said about us, but as they used to say on the TV series of “Dragnet,” “Just the facts, just the facts.”
Rom 14:9 For this Christ both died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord both of the dead and living.
Rom 14:10 But why do you judge your brother? Or also why do you despise your brother? For all shall stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
Rom 14:11 For it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”
Rom 14:12 So then each one of us will give account concerning himself to God.
2Co 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive the things done through the body, according to that which he has done, whether good or bad.
Jesus died for us and is now our Lord. We do not use that word much anymore. But what that word means is He is our King, and He needs to lead our daily lives, if we desire to be happy here and in heaven. We all know that when we work for someone else there will be days when we must give an account of what we have done or not done. Likewise, in the spiritual realm we need to know that there will be a day when we will stand before God and give an account.
Colossians 3:23 says, “And whatsoever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.” The fact based, Oscar winning movie, “Chariots of Fire,” depicts Harold Abrams and Eric Lindell’s quest to win gold medals, a feat they both accomplished. Yet, if you watch the movie, you realize that Abrams was looking for his own glory and praise, but Lindell did it for the glory of God. The work we do for God, whatever that work may be, should be done to give Glory to the Lord and not unto men, this will please God. So, yes God holds us accountable, and we will stand before Him someday. Even so we will receive rewards in heaven for what we have done here. Our rewards are based on what we have done in this life.
Jesus told us; Lay Up Treasures in Heaven
Matthew 6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
